I have purchased several 7249’s and have also purchased a number of 7240’s. With the latter when mounting on an existing pole and not at the absolute top of the mast, it hugs the column very closely with the mount provided, wheras the 7249 mounting allowed the gateway to be mounted a distance from the mast. Is there any simple option for the 7240? Or do I need to fabricate my own?

Unfortunately there is no alternate mounting option we offer. It was really meant for pole mounting via the brackets, taking into account making it as cost efficient as possible offering a more flexible mounting solution was not feasible.
