Bricked my RAK5005 v1 & 4630?

I am wondering if I have bricked my RAK5005 v1 & 4630 or if there are some steps to try and reset it.

I’ve searched the forum for an hour and read lots of posts but nothing that seems to address my basic question.

#1 - I’m using Wondows 11. I took a brand new RAK5005 v1 & 4630, pluged it in and everything works perfectly, program uploads using Platform IO and LEDs blink as expected based on the code.

#2 - I have another RAK5005 v1 & 4630 that has been sitting around for a while and I plug it into the same USB cable, the red light on the 5005 lights up but the laptop never beeps indicating it recognized the Wisblock like it did in #1 above. I’ve tried pressing the reset button, double pressing the reset button and no change. It is not recognized in the Device Manager or File Explorer.

Any suggested actions to try or a prevous post I should reference? I’m ok if its dead, but I’d hate to sacrifice it to the ‘pointer gods’ if it can be saved

Hi @FranklinsAce ,

Since you have two sets of RAK5005 and RAK4630. You can try to swap the modules. This will isolate if the issue is on the base or the core. Before swapping, have physical check first on the modules if nothing looks burnt or suspiciously unusual.

Generally, it is ok to swap on USB power since USB port will limit any excessive current (if something is at fault). But if you find something strange on the non-working base+core, you need to be more cautious.

If you find out that the issue is on the core, then you can try to recover it via Jlink or RAKDAP1.
