Enable Wifi on the 19007 using RAK11200

Hi, i would like to be able to connect my RAK remotely (over VPN) when i am not at home to check for messages on the RAK Meshtastic router.

My solution was to add the RAK11200 to the RAK Wisblock 19007

But when i connected toe RAK11200 to the board, i found out the mounting of the bolt is not lined.

So i was wondering, is this a path to go or is it done by purpose so you wont mount the RAK11200 to the Wiseblock 19007 or should i mount it in a different way?

Can you send a picture? I am not sure I understand what you mean.

Regarding connecting to the ESP32 over VPN to see Meshtastic messages, I am not sure if that is possible. We are not developing or maintaining the Meshtastic firmware.

Hi,
Thanks for your response. I tried two ways of mounting the RAK11200 on the 19007 bord. In both situations it is impossible to secue the 11200 board on the 19007 witht the bold’s.

The idea behind this was to add wifi functionality to the 19007 board since without the 11200 module the board only can deliver Lora and Bluetooth.

If there is no way to combine the 11200 module with the 19007 board, that could also be an answer.

Hum, can’t upload, ok i will embed them :

If you would have told us that you already have a RAK4631 on the Base Board, I could have solved your problem quicker.

A RAK11200 is a WisBlock Core module, same as the RAK4631. You cannot use both together.

If you want to add WiFi to a RAK4631, the correct module is the RAK2305

Just an advanced warning, if you want to use Meshtastic firmware, the RAK2305 is not is not supported by Meshtastic.

For your idea, the working solution would be

RAK19007 Base Board
RAK11200 Core Module, but you have to flash it with Meshtastic firmware
RAK13300 LoRa Module

thanks for your reply, it is all brand new for me. I always worked with Heltec boards and the RAK concept is new to me. If i understand you correctly:

I could decide to take off the the 4630 from the 19007 and attach the 11200. Then use the board with Wifi, but to have it working for mesthastic or other lora projects i also need to attach a lora module. Since the 11200 is an esp32 with bluetooth and wifi and additional i need to add the 13300 module to have also lora availible.

Or i leave it as it is and work only with Bluetooth, and Lora and in this configuration i have a low energy solution, but need to accept no wifi. But i could add the RAK13800 and connect the device to ethernet? But it will use serious more energy for the ethernet module.

Do i understand correct?

Thanks and regards
Eelco

You runderstanding is correct:

RAK19007 + RAK4630 + RAK13800 ==> Meshtastic Node with Ethernet, but with the RAK4630 there is no Web UI (afaik, you have to ask Meshtastic if it has or if it is possible to enable it)

RAK9007 + RAK11200 + RAK13300 ==> Meshtastic Node with WiFi, this gives you the WebUI

No idea about the power consumption, I never measured the consumption.

Both solutions are available as WisMesh Ethernet Gateway or WisMesh WiFi Gateway, pre-assembled with enclosure and pre-flashed with Meshtastic firmware.
