Latest Power Advice for RAK4630

Hi, Im going to design a low power remote solar meshtastic node with the bare SMD mounted RAK4630 . (arduino bootloader)

Ive seen the forum posts about different power supply options and what is linked here: RAK4630 WisDuo LoRaWAN+BLE Quick Start Guide | Setup & Configuration

As my battery voltage will be low (LTO) I will run on a single 3.3V supply. Could anyone confirm the latest power supply advice for low power consumption on single supply?

I also notice that the RAK4631 I currently have doesnt have the (external?) L10 fitted anyway and wondered if something in the designs changed.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ben

Welcome to the forum @benjineer

There is no update for the power supply configuration of a RAK4630 and RAK4631.
It is designed to work with a dual power supply.

Single power supply will work as well.

L10 is below the metal shield. You will not see it on the modules.

Thanks for the fast reply,
Is there a difference in power consumption when operating from a single supply? If I connect as shown on the docs

Do you know the approx power consumption?

I have no power consumption comparison between single and dual supply.

Your approximate power consumption depends on your application and on the peripherals you will connect.

OK last question: Is is also possible to run the RAK4631 on a single supply also?

No. RAK4631 has the setup for dual power supply on its core module PCB and gets the dual supply through the connector to the base board.

In its default configuration yes but I’ve found by comparing the schematics it can be fairy easily modified to change the 0R links to match the single supply configuration. May be useful to others. Then you can power directly using the programming header.

Void warranty, don’t ask for replacement if you mess up.
