Lora_pkt_fwd will not start

Hi, I have a RAK2287 (SPI) connected to Raspberry PI 3B+ board. I installed the rak_common_for_gateway per these instructions to avoid the Chirpstack modules and only install the concentrator, which talks to my remote Chirpstack cloud server via cellular modem.

In the shop, this unit was working perfectly and accepting incoming Join requests as well as communicating with my Chirpstack cloud.

Yesterday I installed the unit on location and upon starting lora_pkt_fwd, I get the following messages:

This is uart for GPS.

Oddly, the GPS location shows all zeros, but if I use minicom to connect to /dev/ttyAMA0 at baud rate 9600, I see lots of GPS data flowing in.

Any ideas on this error or why it suddenly stopped working after being powered off/on to move to the install location?

Update: if I run /opt/ttn-gateway/lora_gateway/test_loragw_com it returns all zeros, for both /dev/spidev0.0 and /dev/spidev0.1 ports.

Does this mean SPI is disabled, or is something else going on?
