Need Help Choosing the Right LoRa Gateway for a Remote Monitoring Project

Hi everyone,

I am working on a remote monitoring project using Power BI, and I’ve been exploring different LoRaWAN gateways for it. The location is a bit tricky- out in the countryside, with no nearby infrastructure for internet access. I am thinking about using solar power for the setup, but I am unsure which RAK gateway would be best for this kind of scenario and how to configure it with Power BI.

I’ve been looking at the RAK7249, but I am open to suggestions if there’s something better for a solar-powered setup with good range and reliability. When I was Googling for the same I came across these resources/articles What to Consider When Picking A LoRaWAN® Gateway - RAK Official Blogs Power BI Tutorial however they are good but I want to learn more from community members.

Has anyone else here done something similar or have advice on which gateway might be the best fit? Any input would be really appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to RAK forum @loganwhite .

If you need outdoor gateway with good range then you should use RAK7289.

As for Power BI, I guess the easiest way to get data is via MQTT.

For your remote monitoring project, selecting a LoRa gateway with good range and low power consumption is key. Options like the RAK7249 or RAK7289 are worth considering, especially for outdoor or solar-powered setups. MQTT for data transfer and integration with platforms like Power BI might also suit your needs
