Powering up RAK7258 and RAK7249 without lora antenna

I see this warning:

:warning: WARNING

Do not power the device if any antenna port has been left open. In case you do not desire to use one or more antenna feature, make sure to terminate the port with a 50 Ohm load .

Do not power the device if the LoRa Antenna port has been left open to avoid potential damage in the RAK7249 WisGate Edge Max."

Do not power the device if the LoRa Antenna port has been left open to avoid potential damage in the RAK7258 WisGate Edge Lite.

what kind of damage if the above is not done?
how do we check if it’s been damaged?
how to terminate the unused ports with 50 ohm load?

Hei @cwrx777,

This is a safety precaution, in order to not have any signal reflect back to the board from the port if there is no antenna connected.
Also it is not good to leave the port open from a mechanical perspective.
If possible best terminate it with a 50Ohm load.
This is more important for the Outdoor gateways like the RAK7249, where there could be water ingress, etc.
The RAK7258, being indoor is safer.
In general it is not a good idea to power radio equipment with any ports exposed to avoid reflection, that might result for high power devices to damage. It is unlikely to happen with your gateway, however not impossible.
In short antenna first, power plug last
