I bought 2 identical kits from the RAK store.
I connected each 1 via USB and flashed the Meshcore Repeater V1.14. I then setup the repeater configuration and verified each board was accessable through the Meshcore app successfully. I then Connected each board via a 5V 2.5A external power source and setting the Jumper to ext power. 1 Board powers on and shows the red LED flashes quickly and can be accessed the 2nd board will not power on with the exact same setup. Do I have a bad RAK13302 on the one that will not power up? It does power up with USB alone and gives quick red LED flashes, USB + Battery(JST connector). It will not power up with just battery(JST Connector) alone.
There can be issue on the the interface from the module 5V supply towards the baseboard. Can you please send the details (photos of setup, other testing done, etc.) on [email protected]?
Please not that if you use the baseboard battery, you have to switch the jumper to internal, else there will be no 5V.
I have this issue as well - the 3401 will not power using the External jumper/connection and the Amazon power adapter below. It does power with battery, both with or without USB connected using the Internal jumper. I have now purchased two of the power adapters below and both measure the correct power at the barrel connection and screw terminals but neither power the 3401. I have tried multiple versions of the Meshtastic firmware and nothing works when trying to power through the External connection. Please assist.
Since it is working with internal battery it means that the 1w kit is still ok.
With the external 5V problem, I would recommend to try a different supply. Personally, I have issues on generic AC-DC adapters online. We can only validate that it delivers if we see the voltage levels on an oscilloscope.
After trying a different and more professional power sources and it is still not working, I need you to check the 3.3V on VDD of the baseboard if a reliable 5V external source is connected, if no 3.3V there might be a problem on the power path from 5V external to baseboard. Maybe a diode is damaged (open), board-to-board connection issue, etc.
