RAK 7268-N won't start

Hello everyone,

I have the aforementioned gateway, but for some time now it has not started or booted correctly.
The green PWR LED lights up permanently.
Other LEDs do not light up. I connected the gateway via the Ethernet port.
But no LEDs next to the network plug light up.

I first pressed the reset button briefly, then pressed it for 5 seconds and finally pressed it for over 10 seconds. - Unfortunately, each time without any effect.

The device has a TF card. - Can I use this to install new firmware or something similar if there is a problem?

I would be grateful for any help! - Many thanks and best regards - Daniel

Hello, I would like to ask again about the above issue to see if someone can help me. Could it be that there is a problem with the firmware? Is it possible to find out what the problem is with the device via the “Console” interface? What can I do to read out log data or an error report, for example? Unfortunately, I am fairly inexperienced in these things and would appreciate some help. - Many thanks and best regards - Daniel

Better send the problem to [email protected].

Hello, I had some hard lessons to learn, but I was finally able to help myself and fix the issue:

  1. My gateway apparently had a problem with the last firmware I did install by update Update.
  2. You can access the gateway via the console interface. Using console software (CoolTerm) I was able to get into the boot menu. (Note: You have to set the Baudrate to 9600. Otherwise you will only see chinese an greek letters)
  3. In the boot menu it was finally possible to establish a connection to a TFTP-server using option two. I had no idea what that was until now, but with an old MacBook it was relatively easy to do. sudo launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/tftp.plist. The .bin file of the current firmware can then be saved in the /private/tftboot/ directory. Important: you have to rename the firmware file to dut.bin and make it executable with sudo chmod 777.
  4. I connected the gateway to the MacBook using a LAN cable. You have to manually set the IP address of the MacBook and make sure that the gateway and the MacBook (TFTP-server) are in the same subnet.

If everything is correct, the gateway will find the TFTP-server using boot option number two and load the file with the new firmware. Everything takes a certain amount of time until it is fully installed. Not everything worked right away, but my new friend ChatGPT helped me make the right settings.

Perhaps the above points can help someone who has similar problems with their gateway.

Best regards, Daniel
