RAK2470 Wiring Option

Hi, I have purchased a RAK7240 to connect to a motor, so I can remotely monitor critical engine data. The unit (motor) obviously has it’s own 12v supply, so my question is can I strip the 4 pin cable coming from the 7240 and connect directly to V, GND, A & B? The supplied cabling seems to only cater for the T cable to inject power. Am I able to purchase a single cable that will connect to the M12-4 connector? If not through RAK, can a plug type be provided to purchase elsewhere?
Thanks in advance!
Andrew.

This image might explain it better…

Hi Andy,

You can connect 12V, GND, A and B. May sure the 12V supply is stable.

As for the connector, we can have a customized one instead of the T-cable configuration type. The MOQ is 1000pcs so it is cheaper if you just use the T-cable.

Thanks @carlrowan. All good, I’ll modify with a deutch 4 pin. Regarding the input Voltage, I’m assuming from your comment directly connecting to a 12v battery would not be suitable, as the voltage could fluctuate between say 10.5 to 14.7v (whilst charging from either a motor or solar)? Would this cause issues? If so, do you have a device you could recommend to include with the install for a 24v system? One of the reasons I would like to deploy this particular device is the simplicity, antenna & device all in one, and weatherproof. I was planning on swapping out my RAK 7431’s with this device for that reason. The advantage though is that the input voltage of the 7431 is 8-48V.

Hi @Andy ,

Adding an external reliable/stable supply is the best option to do. You can test it on your environment though and see if the fluctuations are fine but I would still advise to invest on good supply source.

Yep, Ok, thanks @carlrowan, much appreciated.
