RAK3272LP-SiP Consumption Fimware issue

I have ordered RAK3272LP-SiP breakouts directly from your website, to test the consumption. I have notice something strange with the firmware.

Modules RAK3272LP-SiP are delivered with RAK3272-SiP firmware (Strange…). The consumption of the breakout is 22.4 mA.

RAKwireless RAK3272-SiP

Version: RUI_4.0.5_RAK3272-SiP
Current Work Mode: LoRaWAN.

When I updated to the v4.2.0 or the 4.0.5 LP firmware (RUI_4.0.5_RAK3272LP-SiP), it’s working also, but the consumption of the breakout is 40 mA, as you can see into the following screen shot.

Coming back to the RUI_4.0.5_RAK3272-SiP, and the consumption is 22.4 mA.

We are agree, that’s an error of the initial firmware (supplied with the wrong one), and when I’m reading, the correct consumption (EU868 - 14 dB for France), is 40 mA as described into the specification :

RAK3272-SiP Breakout Board Datasheet | RAKwireless Documentation Center

And the correct firmware is RUI_4.0.5_RAK3272LP-SiP or RUI_4.2.0_RAK3272LP-SiP for the latest one.

Hi @jmberhault ,

I am checking this now with our RUI3 team.

Btw, what FW are you using to measure the current? Is it custom FW you compiled in Arduino?

hi @carlrowan,

At this time, I’m looking to evaluate the component (functions, consumption, etc …). The measurement current is done externaly. I’m using an external FTDI, to send AT Command, and, the breakout (RAK3272LP-SiP) is connecting to an external smart power supply, that’s mesure the consumption, and give me the measure every ms.

For the RAK3172-E, the mesure is 87 mA for EU868 for the emission, and the join too. The measure looks ok.

Hi @carlrowan,

Please, could you confirm that’s for the RAK3272LP-SiP, the correct firmware is RAK3272LP-SiP_.bin, and with the RAK3272-SiP_.bin, consumptions are wrong ?

Hi @jmberhault ,

The correct FW is the RAK3272LP-SiP. As for the TX consumption, I still need to validate the readings with the team since it is not what was measured before (as shown in the specs).
