The dimensions of the module fall completely within the PCI Express Mini Card Electromechanical Specification, except for the card’s thickness (5.5 mm at its thickest).
I’m trying planning to integrate this card into a custom design and thinking about available clearances, I’m wondering in what way the card violates the thickness requirements exactly, since there are components on both sides.
The RAK5146 goes over the 1.35 mm limit on the bottom side due to shielding and components under the PCB. The top side is close to the 2.4 mm spec, likely within range. So if you’re designing a tight slot, watch the clearance underneath — that’s where it breaks the PCIe Mini Card spec.
