Im running into an odd issue maybe someone can help me. I have a rak 4631 starter board 19007vC running meshtastic and im trying to get serial communication working on pins 15TX and 16RX connected to a pi which i know is setup correctly because i used those same setup to run my tbeam and made sure RX and TX were working just in case i was going crazy with this wisblock. My first question is does RX1 and TX1 work if the wisblock is powered over USB? Second do i need some kind of extra module to make it work? i get the normal bootup gibberish even though ive set the correct baud 115200 serial mode proto. Ive even tried upgrading to the latest alpha firmware with no luck. Has anyone been able to get this working if so what am i missing? I tested over usb and it worked but only if i had the logs serial console enabled under security. Just seems weird it works on the Tbeam and other devices just not this one.
Welcome to the forum @akusokuzan
RX1/TX1 are working on a RAK4631/RAK19007 whether you power it from battery or from USB.
But if Meshtastic firmware supports it for any kind of communication is a question towards Meshtastic, I cannot answer this. We are not developing or maintaining the Meshtastic firmware.
As far as I know, RX1/TX1 are used by Meshtastic to communicate with the GNSS/GPS chip, but please confirm directly with Meshtastic.
wait are you saying i cant send cli commands to meshtastic over RX1 and TX1 like you can on other esp32 boards. that would seem weird ill check with meshtastic to verify. i assumed id ask here since you sell the board with the meshtastic firmware i figured you would know more about what does and doesn’t work with your hardware.
Please ask questions about Meshtastic functionality to Meshtastic.
We are providing hardware that is Meshtastic compatible, we are not developing or maintaining Meshtastic firmware.
Same configuration (4631/19007 communicating with Rasperry Pi) and Serial communications working out of the box (I can send you details separately if you haven’t solved the issue in the meanwhile), but a very similar setup using 4631 on 19003 doesn’t work, nothing getting in and out the Serial port except some messages at device reboot. I am also testing both equipments with Serial to Win11, same results of working on the 19007 and not working on the 19003.
I disagree with RAK position to refer to Meshtastic for support, as the devices are advertised and sold by RAK as Meshtastic Devices/Meshtastic Starter Kits (Meshtastic Device Collection: Nodes, Gateways, Ready-to-use devices, and Antennas) and here the questions are really RAK-specific. So, I expect RAK to work on this issue and provide directions.
Hi @pierluigi.rotondo ,
If you have both setup of RAK19007+RAK4631, you can try to have base-core swap with the other setup of RAK19003+RAK4631. This way, you can isolate if the base or the core is causing the issues (assuming it is not FW related)
With your description that the problematic RAK19003+RAK4631 it showing some messages, it means it still functional but encountering some errors along boot up. If you can capture the entire meshtastic log from startup and see where it stops, that might provide some clues.
