Wismesh Tag Nonresponsive

I have a Wismesh Tag running Meshtastic 2.7.7. I normally use it connected via bluetooth to an Iphone or a Macbook running the latest OS.

I used the device regularly for a few weeks. The battery died after regular use last week. The device was left powered off for more than a week. Yesterday, I attempted to recharge the Tag using the magnetic USB cable. I encountered the following problems:

• The Tag would not stay on unless connected to the USB cable.

• The bluetooth repeatedly failed to connect, with the error “too many retries”

• The device could only connect to the Meshtastic app on my macbook by serial connection.

• Attempts to change meshtastic configurations for the device, such as the device node name, would initiate a reboot as expected, but the device would not change names.

I attempted to resolve the problems by taking the following steps

  1. I attempted to load an earlier stable version of the Meshtastic firmware. This did not resolve the problems above.
  2. I attempted a factory-reset of the device.

Now, the device is almost totally non-responsive. When plugged in to the USB cable, the red light illuminates. Clicking, double clicking, triple clicking, or long-holding the front button does nothing. Clicking, double clicking, triple clicking, or long-holding the rear reset button does nothing. When plugged in to USB, my computer does not see it.

Can anyone offer a fix for this?

Keep it on a charger that can supply 2A for at least a day before you make any attempt to switch it on or flash a new firmware.
Your battery might be deep-discharged and needs a full charge first.

I was ultimately unable to get it into a responsive state, even after a day of charging. I have sent the device back to the distributor for troubleshooting and possible replacement. I bought it through Rokland and their customer service has been good.
