I want to configure 1:N with RAK 3172 products. How many units can be connected?

For example, I want to configure multiple IoT products with one gateway. How many units can be connected?

I am testing to connect 50 devices within 2km.

Hi @Athurian ,

Are you doing LoRa? Or LoRaWAN (since you mention gateway)?

The number of devices you can connect will be limited by how much aggressive you transmit data which is directly related to the use of RF frequency in the airwave. If a frequency+datarate is already used by one device, it cannot be used by another. Another thing to consider is the downlink coming from the gateway. If the gateway is transmitting, it cannot listen to device uplinks (in that frequency) that’s why LoRaWAN downlinks is not encourage. You should be able to cater 50 devices but take note on those consideration in your application/setup.

I understood what you meant.
Uplink downlink can be duplicated, so is it correct to check the program structure?
I’m going to check only the number of connections first.
It knows very well that it needs to create a program structure.

What I asked is the number of devices that can be connected.
For reference, I’m going to proceed with the lora p2p method.
The gateway will be Raspberry Pi + rak3172 (USB connection).

With regards to the number of device you can connect via LoRa P2P. Your limit will be the usage of frequency+datarate+bandwidth. If you can ensure that there will be no usage of same parameters simultaneously in your devices (even you are above 50 devices), then you are good.

Since you are in P2P, you have the freedom to allocate those parameters in your devices. Take note that you should follow your local regulations on the usage of those frequencies.

Thank you so much for your reply.
Oh, and one more thing, how many km can the RAK3172 transmit in a flat area with no hills or mountains in the middle?

depends of antennas used and geographical situation so there is no correct answer for that !
