RAK11720 RUI3 update method

Hi,

I’ve started working with the EVB for the RAK11720 and immediately ran into an issue when trying to update RUI3 to the latest version 4.2.3 (the board comes with 4.0.6 preinstalled).

I’ve tried several methods so far, but none of them worked:

  • WisToolBox – it only offers an older version (4.1.6). When I try to update further, it fails with an error saying Python is not installed.
  • Update via BLE (Ambiq app, iPhone) – I can connect to the device, but the app seems outdated and does not allow selecting a .bin file from downloaded files.
  • Update via UART – I used the RAK DFU Tool (same approach as with RAK3172), but without success. It always ends with a timeout. I tried both with AT+BOOT and without it, but the result is the same.

What is the recommended and reliable way to update RUI3 on the RAK11720 to the latest version?

Thank you for any advice.

Hi @shajek ,

if you will update from 4.0.6 to the latest 4.2.3, the recommended and reliable way would be using Jlink.

Or alternatively RAKDAP1. This is a topic related to it - Regarding the flashing of the RAK11720 module with RAKDAP1 pyocd
