WisMesh Pocket V2 and RUI3

  • What product do you wish to discuss?

WisMesh Pocket V2

  • What firmware would you like to be using?

RUI3, hopefully.

The collection of RAK WisBlock hardware that I typically use is the RAK4631 processor and the RAK12500 GNSS, with 2x EEPROMs and an SD-Card, and I put all this in enclosure that is about the same size as the Pocket V2, along with a flat LiPo battery.

I know that the WisMesh Pocket V2 is intended to run Meshtastic, and that it comes preloaded with the appropriate firmware, but it would be a whole lot simpler if I could re-flash the Pocket V2’s RAK4630 with RUI3.

This would depend on the mapping of RAK4630 I/O to the RAK19026 WisMesh Base Board compared to the mapping (through the RAK4631 carrier) to the RAK19007 WisBlock Base Board. I’m kind of expecting that the mapping will be very similar, because I presume you would have reused whatever design library parts you already had and it would have been generally easier not to change the pin names on the schematic.

But maybe there was some reason this could not be so, and RUI3 is incompatible with the WisMesh BaseBoard for fundamental reasons.

So, can RUI3 run on the WisMesh Base Board?

Hi @psupine ,

WisMesh Board is good board for RUI3. You can check connections and improvements on the schematic here - RAK19026 VC WisMesh Base Board Datasheet

Please take note that there are VA and VC on the datasheet.

There are good improvements on the WisMesh Board like built-in switch, improved charger, etc.

Hi @carlrowan,

I’d already printed that out and compared it against the RAK19007 schematic. The missing link is the RAK4630 module to RAK4631 WisCore mapping. I’ve seen that schematic at some point, but I can’t find it now.

I’ll order a PocketV2 and play. Can I do an OTA drop for RUI3 onto the RAK19026 (via Nordic’s App) or perhaps does the WisBoxTool support this step. I’m always looking for a shortcut

I cannot confirm for compatibility on nrfutil. The universal way to shift FW build is just use Jlink
